This past?weekend?marked the 25th anniversary of the birth one of Nintendo?s greatest franchise, the Metroid series. On August 6th, 1986, Nintendo had released ?Metroid? for the Famicom System in Japan. Throughout the years the Metroid franchise has brought many fans a new experience but still has kept originality within their games along with?bringing?recurring elements such as ?Speedruns? and ?Timed Escapes.?
Although ?in the initial 15 years since the franchise?s creation only 3 games were released, in 2002 Nintendo began a reboot of the series starting with Metroid Fusion (for GBA) and Metroid Prime (for GCN). Nearly every year since 2002 there has been more titles being released. Along with having it?s own series of games, Metroid?s protagonist, Samus, has been featured as a playable character in Nintendo?s hit fighting franchise ?Super Smash Bros.?
25 years Metroid has been around! This deserves a celebration? doesn?t it?
2010 marked the 25th Anniversary of Mario and Nintendo surprised it?s fans with the release of the Super Mario All-Stars Collectors Pack which included the game Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition (for Wii), a Collector?s Book filled with Mario historical goodness and stuff. Also Included was a Soundtrack CD featuring hits from the Mario series.
This year, 2011, also marked the anniversary for the Legend of Zelda, in which Nintendo is to hold a Live Orchestra to perform a symphony of the many Zelda songs and medleys we have all come to love.
As for Metroid?! Well, we?re still waiting. So far no one has any idea what Nintendo will do for the milestone this franchise has reached. If Nintendo doesn?t acknowledge the franchise I will be very?disappointed. As a long time Metroid fan it would seem fair to give the franchise some type of celebration, acknowledgement or? ANYTHING.

What would you expect for this occasion? A new Metroid game? A remake of a previous title? A Collector?s package?
