LAGOS, Nigeria ? While a growing nationwide strike and protests have already paralyzed daily life in Nigeria, the beating heart of its economy ? crude oil ? keeps pumping.
Nigeria remains a top supplier of crude to the U.S., producing about 2.4 million barrels a day from the swamps of its southern delta and from massive offshore oil fields. So far, the strike hasn't affected production.
Unions say they want to disrupt operations of the foreign oil firms operating in Africa's most populous nation. That is something that could have an effect on the global oil market.
