The Break Up

According to MTV Multiplayer, in an interview with Ubisoft?producer Adrian Blunt, it was disclosed that the Wii U will do away with the Wii?s Friend Code system in favour of an Xbox-/PlayStation-like gamertag.

The announcement (or perhaps the slip) came during a Ghost Recon Online demo at E3:

Rather than using friend codes, which we?ve had in the past, we?re able to connect players in a much easier way, which allows us to have a community that?s playing together in the game.

When asked if this ?new connection would be akin to a PSN or Live account, Blunt rather bluntly replied:??Yeah, exactly.?

The Wii U aims to retake an alienated ?core? market with an impressive list of HD third-party titles including Battlefield 3 and Batman: Arkham City. The new Nintendo console is slated for a late 2012 release.
